What are Math and Science?
Mathematics refers to the study of numbers and their operations, as well as of abstractions and space. Earth science is a broad term referring to the sciences involved in the study of the Earth, and physical science refers to the sciences that study the nature of energy and matter.
Engineering as a Field
Consider all of the things that have been constructed in our world: houses, cars and reclining chairs; playground equipment, technical camping tents and tennis shoes; chemical compounds, electronic devices and farm equipment. The construction of each of these things and a plethora of others has, at some point, required the wisdom, knowledge, and guidance of an engineer. The field of engineering then is as broad as the sky is vast.
Engineers specialize in particular types of design—structural, mechanical and electronic, to name a few—and they work in a variety of capacities. Environmental engineers, for example, work to find solutions to pressing environmental problems. Civil engineers, for example, plan and design the development of infrastructure projects. Biomedical, marine, and materials engineers, for example, analyze and design medicine, build and maintain sea vessels, and design, develop, and test a range of products. Any product you can think of required or requires the brilliance, ingenuity, and skilled input of an engineer. If you are someone who has always been curious about how things are built or has always wanted to invent and design new products, the field of engineering might be a perfect field for you.

The Program in Cell, Molecular, Developmental Biology, and Biophysics (CMDB) at Johns Hopkins is directed towards cross-training doctoral students in all of these areas.
With a strong foundation in both research and teaching, our program focuses on advanced training in modern life science disciplines, including: genetics, cell and developmental biology, biochemistry,
Cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, and molecular biology.
The MS and PhD programs focus on research in Cellular Biology in preparation for employment in academia, industry, and government.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers an M.S. in Chemistry with either a research project or an all course work degree.
The Department of Biology and Biochemistry is in a rapid growth phase in which eight faculty have been added in the last three years.
Our graduate programs in Biological Sciences provide comprehensive training in both research and teaching.
The doctoral program at Meharry leads to an interdisciplinary Ph.D. focused on molecular approaches for research and research training.
Program places main emphasis on the systematics and evolution of higher plants and is designed to fit the needs and interest of individual students.
The Van Andel Institute Graduate School (VAIGS) offers a unique PhD progam in cell, molecular, and genetic biology of human disease housed within an independent biomedical research institute.
The PhD in Biology program is enhanced by NAU-Flagstaff's location in northern Arizona, where you’ll discover an environment conducive to both academic and personal development.
The conservation biology Ph.D.
The basic philosophy of this department is to study the complex and mysterious phenomena of life through the use and improvements of modern molecular biological methods.
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas supports an extensive graduate program leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
The program emphasizes independent research and operates in a modern new laboratory building having excellent facilities.
The International Max Planck Research School of Marine Microbiology (MarMic) is an M.Sc. / Ph.D. graduate program for highly qualified and motivated national and international students.
Students may select one of three areas in which to concentrate their study: cell and molecular biology; ecology, evolution, and conservation biology; or general biology.
